The HTC EVO 4G - Thank you Google!

June 30th, 2010 | Category: Miscellaneous

I have been enjoying my new HTC EVO 4G for a few weeks now.  With the Android® SDK and some newly acquired JAVA® programming skills, I am now finally “sold” on the idea that developing applications for Android® equipped phones was well worth the wait.

I’m also super excited about the upcoming Adobe® AIR® runtime release for Android® where I will be able to leverage Flash®/Flex®/AIR® ActionScript 3 applications to be deployed as native Android® applications that utilize Adobe® AIR® runtime. I’ve been dabbling deeply into the developer pre-release versions of Adobe AIR runtime for Android® and I must say that it’s extremely promising - especially on my HTC EVO 4G phone.

My most used application is the native Voice Recorder in conjunction with an Android® application I created with the Android® SDK where I record and log audio for all incoming and outgoing calls and upload them to a secure database over a secure connection to my home network file repository. By the way, it is legal in the state of Texas to record phone conversations WITHOUT having to inform the other party that you are doing so. Those phone recordings are able to be used as evidence for court proceedings originating in the state of Texas. Telemarketers and dead-beats beware!

Just like my deliberate decision to wait for Adobe® Flash® to reach smart phones was prudent, while not making the move to iPhone® restricted development, my decision to pursue mobile development with Android® is truly worthwhile and meaningful - simply amazingly easy and highly profitable.

I am even considering scaling back on my Windows® smart phone mobile development and focusing solely on Android® going forward.  It is quite refreshing to not be stuck in the Microsoft® and Apple® realm for mobile device application development.

My favorite Android® application is the LogMeIn® Ignition program where I can connect and fully control my home network of multiple PCs from my HTC EVO 4G phone.
