A Nice Adobe AIR 1.5.2 Helper Utility for Alternativa3D Mesh Class Exportation

October 27th, 2009 | Category: ActionScript, Miscellaneous

To aid in the more streamlined and efficient development/workflow for my Maya to Alternativa3D pipeline, I have just finished a new version of a great Adobe AIR Alternativa3D Mesh Exporter application originally adapted and developed by Exey Panteleev.

This Vs 2.0 is based on Exey Panteleev’s Vs 1.0 Alternativa3D Mesh Exporter AIR application but I made some significant changes that have more configurable and robust source code generation features specifically implemented for the complexities for integration within the AS3_CORE_Flex application framework and Alternativa3D applications.

Maya to Flex 3 Alternativa3D w/Flash CS4 Finalized Workflow Testing

October 21st, 2009 | Category: ActionScript, Miscellaneous

I have completed and finalized the workflow and production pipeline from start to finish for Maya to Flex 3 Alternativa3D w/Flash CS4 AS3 integration as interactive movie clip material 3D objects.

Below is the case study SWF result of the final testing for a Maya 3D portfolio room scene that had four large monitors where a quad video wall plays an .f4v video file along with user interactivity within the 3D environment.

Standard game type controls exist:  W, A, S, D, SPACE, UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, MiddleMouseWheel (fov), LeftMouseClickDrag (camera pan).  Yes, if you go out one of the doors, you fall for infinity so look up and at the room, it’s your last chance.

Also, there is an actual render screenshot below from MentalRay in Maya for comparison of the BSP rendering of Alternativa3D within Flex 3.

Maya to Flex 3 Alternativa3D Workflow Alpha/Beta Testing - Complex and tricky

October 11th, 2009 | Category: ActionScript, Miscellaneous

I have been dabbling with creating a production workflow/pipeline for Maya to Flex 3 Alternativa3D for Flash 10, with very little success.  So far, I’m not finding the “sweet spot” for how exactly to produce the triangulated polygons with UV Texture Maps in Maya that will ultimately translate well to Alternativa3D’s engine for Flash/Flex.   It is proving to be quite tricky for back faces to be rendered without having to create N, S, E, W additional faces with corresponding textures.  Arrgh.

Below are the Alpha & Beta Testing SWF’s for three 3D scenes in Maya ranging from simple to complex.  There is very little “real” Alternativa3D documentation with complete examples for all of the framework and it seems there are only basic tutorials out there from the makers of Alternativa3D, all of which focus primarily on 3Ds Max (yuk).  It’s turning out to be a bit of a mystery on how to refine a Maya workflow through excessive trial and error.

Standard controls apply for gamers for movement throughout the scene (W, S, A, D, SPACE, UP, DOWN, RIGHT, LEFT, MOUSE LOOK - click and drag while moving).

Click the screenshot below to load the ALPHA Test 1 SWF in a new window.
