HP TouchSmart - NBA Jam Session - Touch Screen Application Launched!

February 11th, 2009 | Category: Projects

I just finished up designing and developing an application for HP (Hewlett-Packard), for the 2009 NBA ALL * STAR Jam Session in Phoenix.

I wrote a stand-alone application that was deployed specifically for the on-location event using a custom Windows installer package (also custom written in Visual Basic).

This is a great new application for demonstrating HP’s new TouchSmart PC running Vista on a beautiful glossy 25″ HD monitor.Ā  I was able to do some really cool runtime animations and special FX on this application since it could leverage the power of the computer (not being web- or online-based).

Users can take a short quiz to get “certified” and print a certification badge right there at the event (wireless printing via the TouchSmart PC is wicked cool).

I also designed, developed, and programmed the entire back-end for the MySQL database, AMF PHP Flash Remoting, and created a custom real-time reporting/tracking mechansim in PHP and JavaScript that connects the various Touch Screen applications at the live event to the back-end.

I have to say, this project was extremely fun and challenging and it really shows the power of leveraging multiple technologies, software, and hardware to do something really cool and exciting.
